“SINKING SANDS” Starring Jimmy Jean-Louis
Diaspora. A new psychological drama starring Hollywood star Jimmy Jean-Louis (Heroes) is being released this Fall titled “Sinking Sands.” By the looks of the trailer, we have a feeling it will be a good one!
The film tells the story of a couple, Jimah and Pabi in a loving marriage which turns into one of violence and abuse when Jimah becomes disfigured in a domestic accident.
“Sinking Sands,” wrote and directed by Africa Movie Academy Award-nominated Leila Djansi, stars Haiti-born Hollywood actor, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ghanaian-born British newcomer Ama K. Abebrese, and popular Nollywood-actor Yemi Blq.
Financed through The David Djansi Memorial Film Fund and its Australian associates, the feature is produced by Turning Point Pictures and distributed by Neoclassic Films Studios. [Turning Point Pictures]

Dawn Okoro Explores “Selfsploitation.”
One of our favorite artists at Africa Style Daily is Nigerian-American Dawn Okoro. She caught our attention when her “Power Project” was featured in Arise magazine and since then,we have been following her work. Her latest project is called “Selfsploitation” which she describes as:
“the psychology of sending sexually suggestive photos of one’s self by cellphone or posting them on social websites.”

We were smitten with Afrique C’est Chic label Boxing Kitten when we saw Beyonce and Alicia Keys rocking outfits from the line in their “Put It In A Love Song” video, and since then more and more celebrities have been spotted rocking label from African designers. First lady Michelle Obama was spotted in Duro Olowu, and has just commissioned Bunmi Koko to design a coat for her; and R&B songbird Brandy stepped out in Boudoir Huites!

SUNO’s Fall/Winter 2010 Collection
Diaspora (New York, Kenya). Inspired by Max Osterweis‘ travels to Kenya and his willingness to do something to encourage economic development in the politically risky country, SUNO NEW YORK was born. Using the traditional fabrics, embroidery and beading techniques of the country, Osterweis has his textiles developed in New York and ships them off to Kenya where the garments are created by talented artisans by hand. Each selection is created in small batches and is guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind while the Kenyan tailors and seamstresses are paid fair wages and are subjected to fair labor practices. Afrique C’est Chic: Hemma Asante Jacket
Diaspora (Ghana). When Cindy Gaston and Edna Bissoon studied abroad in Ghana in 2007 teaching at a local middle school, they came back inspired by the beautiful Kente fabric of the country. Each were on track to pursue law and medicine respectively, but when they returned to New York City, they were fashion designers, launching Hemma. They continue to be dedicated to their work in Ghana donating 5% of their profits back to the school where they served as teachers. Get your fly Kente blazer here.
