ASD Street Style: Social Media Week presents “This Is Africa”

Diaspora (New York City). The first ever Social Media Week is underway and ASD Managing Editor Lynecia and I attended “This is Africa: How Music and Social Media are Redefining a Continent” presented by Society HAE at Red Bull Space. When we weren’t listening to the panelists which included Larry Ossei-Mensah of My Global Hustle and Arise Magazine; Ben Herson of Nomadic Wax, and Delphine Fawundu-Buford; or mingling with celebrities like Blitz the Ambassador (also a panelist), we were checking out the style of the attendees. Here are some pics of the stylish guests we spotted. Let us know what you think!

It was all about the headgear for these three guests. They are right on trend with the turbans and Ankara head-wraps. A male guest shows the men how to rock it with his hat.

This guest showed her African pride with an Ankara top which she paired with trendy grey harem pants.We love her hair as well! Very bold.

Performer Iyadede accentuated her natural hairstyle with a colorful hair-tie,while her friend rocked very long braids and separated them into two plaits. Very 90s!

One of our favorite T-shirt brands, Bernos, was represented in the form of a new hoodie which we hear will be released for purchase soon.We cant wait for ours!

Once we laid eyes on this skirt, we couldn’t stop staring. The guest paired it with a brown blazer and black handbag.

These friends looked fashionable in an interesting brown and multi-colored jacket and grey blazer with a red afro-centric necklace.

This guest showed her love for President Obama by wearing a dress with his face on it and matching her red cardigan to a beaded belt of the same color.
